The suspend limiter on the wire rope electric hoist is a safety protection device, which is mainly used to prevent the hook or load from exceeding the allowable travel range during the rising process, avoiding dangerous situations such as collision, overwinding or loose rope. Its specific function and working principle are as follows:
1. Main Function
Rising limit protection:
When the hook or load rises to the set height, the weight limiter will trigger a power-off or reverse operation signal, cutting off the rising power of the electric hoist to prevent the hook from hitting the top (hitting the drum or pulley block) and avoiding wire rope breakage or structural damage.
2. How it works
Mechanical trigger:
The weight is suspended by a wire rope at the extreme position of the hook’s motion path. When the hook rises and touches the weight, the suspend limiter pulls the limit switch (such as a lever or rotary switch) connected to it, cutting off the circuit or sending a signal.
3. Installation Steps
(1). Determine the installation location
Rising limit:Installed on the wire rope when the hook rises to near the upper limit position (generally about 0.3~0.5m from the drum or pulley block).
(2). Fixed limit switch
Fix the limit switch (micro switch or travel switch) at a suitable position of the electric hoist (such as the drum side plate, beam or near the wire rope path).
Make sure the switch is sensitive and not interfered by other components.
(3). Install the limiter
Hang the limiter on the hook’s motion path with a wire rope or chain, ensuring that:
1. The limiter can swing freely and will not get stuck.
2. The limiter is moderately heavy (too light may not trigger the switch, too heavy may affect the life of the wire rope).
3. Secure the limiter with a wire rope clamp or shackle to ensure a secure connection.
(4).Connect limit switch and suspend limiter
Use a wire rope, pull rod or lever mechanism to link the suspend limiter with the limit switch:
When the hook rises and touches the weight, the suspend limiter is lifted and the limit switch is pulled to cut off the power supply.
(5).Adjust the limit position
*Manual Testing:
Slowly raise the hook and observe whether the suspend limiter triggers the limit switch at the set height.
If not, adjust the suspend limiter position or the sensitivity of the limit switch.
